Preparations for the games are well underway; they will be held from August 8th to August 24th, 2008. Needless to say, the Olympics have generated a lot of excitement here in China. Sports stars beam from many posters around the cities and taxi drivers are making an effort to learn English through tapes and radio.

Volleyball, sailing, and open water swimming events will be held in Qingdao, a coastal city to the southeast of Beijing, where the Cathay Cafe is also located. Equestrian events will be held in Hong Kong. Football preliminaries will be held in the cities of Shanghai, Tianjin and Qin Huang Dao.
